I believe that by helping students and teachers keep alive their joy of learning we can contribute to the important cultural work of challenging the current status quo in results-driven education.
Through mentoring and coaching, I support people to recognise how collaboration and co-construction can help them on their journey to transformation. I am ardent about working with people to encourage them to rethink what education could be, so that it meets the needs of all our learners, any place, any time - no matter what the age of the learner. I feel it’s also about recognising everyone as being both learners and teachers, with something to contribute..

In the art of coaching there are many different approaches and definitions. However, at a basic level they all are either transactional (coaching for performance) and / or transformational (coaching for a change in awareness and understanding that can lead to improved performance). The two foci are strongly interrelated with the transactional…

A lovely overview from Sarah Whiting, about what coaching and mentoring is...and isn't, and a couple of the options available through CORE Education.
The description from the Edtalks site reads:
Sarah Whiting, facilitator for CORE Education, discusses the role of coaching and mentoring in teaching. She talks about how important it is that coaching and mentoring happens alongside people, providing support in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space. Sarah explains how…

I must admit to feeling just a bit excited when I read recently that people are crying out for coaching and mentoring (although I did wince a bit at some of the language used in the article :D). This is a significant shift from seeing coaching and mentoring as something that used to be about performance management, or as something that seemed to be mainly reserved for…

My pleasure! Thank you Hazel
Thanks Hazel, great to have my own profile now.
Kia ora Hazel. I'm looking forward to getting acquainted with this community.
Hi Hazel, thanks for your "official" welcome :) I'm super glad to be part of the community. Sure, I'll play around with the site navigation for a while before posting anything new...learning curve!
thanks Hazel, I'm looking forward to making more connections. I've known of this community for a while through Michael Barbour's Virtual School Meanderings. Just hadn't taken the leap. Now I'm in the water.
I assume there are some help pages somewhere on the site. Just made a new blog post -- more a cross-post -- about VR and Accessiblity
Thank you Hazel! Allah ysallmek too!
I was looking for an online exam tool for my students to help them pass as many mock exams as they want any time when in campus.. You suggested TAO and found it more interesting than others, namely Kaldin that was not enough open to add bulk import of exams and test takers..
I want to join because I just adhere to the aim of the community, taking advantage of the ICT in learning, but I am also interested in enhancing teaching abilities and techniques besides the ICT.
Just a note, I am basically working as engineer for power company here! but I also teach IT systems management. For the research paper you pointed out, let's say that I am contributing, but not really doing research!
Thank you again ! Marhaba!
Thanks for the warm welcome, Hazel. I'm looking forward to making new connections and sharing ideas and experiences :-)
Thank you. I look forward to learning, challenging and being challenged!
Thank you Hazel for your warm welcome. I'm looking forward to explore the ethos site and make new connections.
Hello Hazel
Thanks for the invite and the warm welcome, very excited to be a part of such a diverse group. This came at a great time as I used the video of the young man sharing his Harvard speech today at our staff meeting. Was a great way to start the meeting around making a difference and being willing to challenge the status quo.
